MileIQ
Simple, swipe-based automatic mileage tracking (Microsoft-owned)
How it works
MileIQ is an automatic mileage tracking app owned by Microsoft (via the Mobile Data Labs acquisition). It runs in the background using GPS, Wi-Fi, and cell tower data to automatically detect and log every trip. The signature classification method is a swipe: right for business, left for personal. After three identical classifications for a frequent route, the app auto-classifies it going forward. MileIQ generates IRS and CRA compliant mileage reports, supports work hours auto-classification, and allows named locations for smarter recognition. It integrates with Xero for accounting export. Team plans offer centralized mileage management with custom reimbursement rates. MileIQ is included at no extra cost with Microsoft 365 Business Premium and Office 365 Business Premium subscriptions (US, UK, and Canada).
Is it right for you?
Consider if you
- Microsoft 365 Business Premium subscribers (included free with subscription)
- Professionals who want the fastest mileage classification workflow (swipe right/left)
- Teams needing centralized mileage reporting with Azure AD integration
Skip if you
- Those needing unlimited free auto-tracking (free tier caps at 40 drives/month)
- Users who frequently drive in areas with poor cell service (offline tracking is unreliable)
- Anyone wanting built-in expense tracking or accounting (purely mileage)
Your money and data
MileIQ is owned by Microsoft and benefits from Microsoft's enterprise-grade security infrastructure. Trip and location data is encrypted in transit and at rest using Azure's security framework. For Microsoft 365 Business Premium subscribers, data is managed under Microsoft's standard data processing terms and enterprise compliance certifications (SOC, ISO 27001). Location data is used solely for trip detection and classification and is not used for advertising purposes.
